Eye Disease and Disorder

Eye Disease and Disorder

Vision loss is characterized by the partial or complete loss of vision, can be sudden onset or progressive. There are many factors that influence eye health, be it nutrition, age, or loss of vision due to disease and disorder. The most common diseases that affect vision are age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, cataracts and glaucoma. Although each disease impacts vision differently and symptoms differ significantly, our recovery modalities can help you improve your vision and experience a higher quality of life!

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT)

Hyperbaric oxygen has been shown to improve conditions in common eye diseases like diabetic retinopathy, age related macular degeneration, and other eye conditions like macular and retinal damage. One study demonstrated that individuals with diabetic retinopathy found improvements in eyesight after 30 sessions. Another study found that 20 sessions of HBOT treatment for macular degeneration had seen improved vision for 90% of the participant group. A study on retinal degradation found that individuals who had undergone hyperbaric oxygen, found a 40% improvement in visual fields than those who had not. Another study demonstrated that 20 sessions improved the recovery success of macular surgery, showing improved visual fields. A final study examining the effects of retinal arterial occlusion found that 23 individuals who underwent HBOT found temporarily improved vision, and found that earlier treatment after onset of symptoms experienced better visual outcomes.

Pulsed Electromagnetic Field Therapy (PEMF)

The use of PEMF in the treatment of eye disease and disorders has shown to improve blood circulation and repair nerve damage. One study demonstrated that just 15 minutes of PEMF for 7 days found reduced gene expression for various eye disorders, including age-related macular degeneration, glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy. Another study found that cell damage and clots were significantly reduced after 4 one hour sessions of PEMF therapy. Two other studies on PEMF application of 10 minutes over 10 sessions found that PEMF increased blood flow to the eyes, and improved eyesight by 10%, improving visual clarity in individuals with glaucoma. The latter study also showed benefit in reducing the size of cataracts as well, demonstrating to be a possible treatment strategy.

Targeted Nutritional Supplementation

At Re-Gen, we make high quality supplementation that has been shown to improve vision for some diseases and disorders. Studies have shown that vitamin C and E (found in our inflammation Blend), beta-carotene and zinc (found in our Heart Health and Bone Health Blends) have been shown to reduce the risk of progressing to late stage AMD from 28% to 20% after 5 years in individuals who were in the intermediate stage of AMD. Vitamins C and E also decrease stress in the eye, which improves blood vessel function, improves white blood cell function, and limits oxidative stress. The B vitamins (found in our Gut Health Blend), especially B1 and B3, decrease oxidative damage, protect the retina, and have protective effect in open angle glaucoma, decreasing the risk of having OAG twofold. And lastly, beta-carotene (found in our Heart Health Blend) contributes to healthy corneal function and vascular health, which is important in eye health.
